WHY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION?

You may be deciding whether to learn manual or automatic – it is a good idea to consider the advantages of both options and which would suit you best. Mario, your driving instructor at Abington Automatic in Northampton is experienced in teaching both and the reason he recommends and now exclusively teaches automatic transmission is explained below.

The most important advantage with an automatic is safety.

When pulling away the chances of being hit by a following vehicle are reduced, because it’s impossible for a driver to cause a stall that results in the car suddenly stopping. Automatic transmissions also remove the risk of a driver selecting the wrong gear when pulling out from a junction. This prevents a potentially dangerous situation, where the driver cannot accelerate as quickly as intended and therefore creates a risk of collision. Finally, because the driver is not required to reach down regularly to change gears, their hands can remain on the steering wheel and they are able to concentrate more on the road and conditions ahead.

Due to the emergence of hybrid and full electric vehicles, manual transmissions are becoming obsolete.

Roads are becoming increasingly congested and their condition steadily deteriorating. The vast majority of drivers just see driving as a necessary chore in order to conveniently get to a destination. This being the case, it seems logical and sensible to make the process of driving as easy and stress free as possible. An automatic car takes the inconvenience and effort of matching and changing gears away from the driver. Instead, the vehicles gearbox takes care of this responsibility by continually selecting and engaging the optimum gear for progress and efficiency.

Learning and passing can be can be quicker than manual.

Although automatic driving lessons tend to be slightly more expensive than manual, this is easily offset by the fact that there is somewhat less to learn. As a consequence, a learner should require less tuition in order to reach the level of competence needed to drive safely and therefore pass a driving test.
